Highland Park The Dark 17 years old /52,9% – The majority of recent Highland Park releases are backed with the stories about the Orkney heritage and Viking myths and legends. The Dark shares the story of contrasting island seasons and their great influence on whisky. Dark and light are concepts that exist in opposition, yet together they create a perfect balance in perfect continuous cycle. The Dark celebrates autumn and winter on Orkney, when days are short and the locals share long nights of conversation and laughter around the fire with a mandatory dram of whisky. This 17 years old single malt has been drawn from European oak sherry seasoned casks and bottled at natural strength of 52.9% abv with an outrun of 28,000 bottles.
Nose: pretty spicy, cinnamon, ginger, roasted chestnuts, pine needles, chocolate-coated biscuits, mixed berries marmalade and hints of smoke.
Palate: plum butter, raisins, honey-roasted almonds, espresso, bitter oranges, dried herbs, cinnamon, cloves and nicely integrated oakiness.
Finish: long, with notes of dried fruits and herbs, almonds, dark chocolate and distant whiffs of smoke.
