Kilkerran Heavily Peated, Batch #2 /60,9%/ – Glengyle Distillery was founded by William Mitchell in Campbeltown and operated from 1872 to 1925. Over 75 years later Hedley Wright, the chairman of J&A Mitchell & Co. (the owners of Springbank) and great-great nephew of William Mitchell bought the old buildings and in 2004 made the re-opening of Mitchell’s Glengyle Distillery a reality. Single malt produced there has been bottled under the Kilkerran brand since 2009. In the spring of 2019 the company launched Kilkerran Heavily Peated as a forerunner to Peat in Progress series. The second batch followed just several months later. The whisky was distilled from barley malted to phenols’ content of over 80ppm and aged in combination of ex-bourbon (55%) and ex-sherry (45%) casks for over three years. The second batch was bottled at slightly higher abv of 60.9%.
