Highland Park Valfather / 47%/
– Valfather in the third and final chapter of Highland Park Viking Legends range introduced in 2017 with Valkyrie (the second in line was Valknut launched 2018). All three whiskies have been released with cooperation of Jim Lyngvild, Danish renowned designer, who can trace his lineage back to the Viking era. Valfather is named after the most powerful Norse god Odin and according to the distillery, it is the most peated Highland Park whisky to date. The whisky was matured in refill casks and bottled of natural color at 47% abv and its presentation was inspired by the ancient runic stones (dated 8th Century) located in Stora Hammars, Gotland, Sweden.
Nose: peat smoke, spring meadow, vanilla, honeycomb, crème brûlée, apples, pears, nutmeg, black pepper, cedar wood and distant whiff of sea breeze.
Palate: rich, vanilla cream, honey-roasted nuts, salted caramel, toffee, bitter orange marmalade, dried apricots, pepper, touch of cocoa powder and oak.
Finish: long, smoky and fruity, with notes of bitter oranges, grapefruits, black pepper, salted almonds and oak.
