Big Peat Christmas Edition 2019 Cask Strength / 53,7%/ – In 2019 the Big Peat brand celebrated its 10th Anniversary. Christmas Edition launched in 2011 immediately earned cult status and remains the most cherished brand expression. The whisky is “a remarkable marriage of single malts sourced from the Islay distilleries representing all that is Islay in one bottle”. The main components of Big Peat are Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen but proportions vary for each cask strength edition. The label of 2019 Christmas Edition features the famous “Brand Ambassador” rolling a cask out of the cold dark Islay warehouse on a snowy night. The gift tube glitters with the winter snowfall against the dark night’s sky.
Nose: sweet and smoky, sweet cereals, vanilla, honey, sweet pastries, baked apples, hints of iodine and tar and whiffs of sea breeze.
Palate: peat smoke, seaweed salad, vanilla custard, sponge cake, brown sugar, bananas, hints of licorice and aniseed and a touch of tar.
Finish: fairly long and smoky, with notes of sea breeze, vanilla, hints of summer fruit, sea salt and oak.
