The Balvenie 12 years old The Sweet Toast of American Oak / 43%/ –
In the spring of 2019 Balvenie Distillery launched a new range of single malt whisky called the Balvenie Stories Collection. It consists of three expressions – The Sweet Toast of American Oak, The Peat Week and A Day of Dark Barley. The first whisky in a line-up was created by apprentice malt master Kelsey McKechnie with assistance of Balvenie malt master, legendary Dave Stewart. The whisky was originally aged in ex-bourbon barrels for 12 years then was transferred into virgin American oak casks sourced from Kelvin Cooperage in Kentucky for additional three months. The casks were toasted for 20 minutes then sent to the distillery for an additional toast “to bring out as much flavor as possible”.
Nose: sweet and malty, vanilla fudge, brown sugar, lemon curd, coconut flakes, candied ginger, cinnamon and toasted oak.
