Octomore Orpheus 5 years old, Edition: 02.2 (140 ppm) / 61%Octomore whisky has been produced at Bruichladdich Distillery since 2002. It is the world’s most heavily peated whisky with phenols content in malt varies from batch to batch from 80 to over 250 ppm. The whisky is usually bottled at young age, 5 years old on average, and at natural strength. Octomore Orpheus, Edition 02.2, contains whisky distilled from barley malted to phenol specifications of 140 ppm, aged in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in Château Pétrus wine casks. Bottled in 2009 at 61% abv with an outrun of 15000 bottles. Pétrus is Bordeaux wine estate located in Pomerol. It produces magnificent and rather expensive wines, in 2011 a bottle of 1961 Vintage sold at Christie’s in New York for $ 144,000.

Nose: peat and smoke, seaweed, ocean spray, hints of soy sauce and iodine and delicate notes of red berries and citrus and touch of juniper.

Palate: malty, peaty and smoky, with notes of cherries, cranberries and strawberry jam, dash of pepper, coffee and gentle oakiness.

Finish: long, smoky and peaty with notes of cranberries, red currants and oak.
