It was a small outfit, with annual output around 90,000 liters of spirit per annum. The distillery ceased operations in 1927 and the last casks were removed from the warehouse six years later. In 2002 Signatory Vintage Whisky Co. acquired Edradour Distillery, and soon started producing limited quantities of heavily peated whisky from barley malted to specification of 50ppm phenols. It will be introduced as Ballechin single malt in 2006. Ballechin 13 years old, Batch # 001, was released in April 2023. The expression was crafted from American oak ex-bourbon barrels and European oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at natural strength of 54.9% abv.

Nose: delicate sherry notes, peat smoke, trace of burnt rubber, plums, dark grapes, gooseberries, raisins and sultanas, heather honey, toffee, dash of pepper and oak.

Palate: peat smoke, dark chocolate, honey, raisins, prunes, dried apricots, orange zest, salted nuts, clove, white pepper, hints of fennel, and oak tannins.

Finish: fairly long, with notes of peat smoke, dark chocolate, dried fruits, salted nuts, allspice, dash of pepper and oak.
