Strathmill 25 years old (D.1996, B.2021) Signatory Vintage /55,5%/ – Strathmill Distillery was founded in 1891 as Glenisla-Glenlivet Distillery. It was acquired by W. & A. Gilbey four years later and changed its name to Strathmill. The distillery is currently owned by Diageo and equipped with two pairs of stills produces 2.6 million liters of spirit per annum. Strathmill has been closely associated with J&B blends since 1962 and single malt offerings are pretty rare. The whisky presented here was distilled on July 31, 1996 and aged in hogshead # 2100 for a quarter of a century. Bottled at natural strength of 55.5% abv and without chill-filtration by Signatory Vintage as part of their prestigious Cask Strength Collection range on September 21, 2021 with an outrun of 198 bottles.
Nose: bunch of wild flowers, pears, apples, pineapples, lemon curd, vanilla, honey, pralines, white pepper, dash of cinnamon and toasted oak.
Palate: honeyed cereals, apples, peaches, Mirabelle jam, buttered croissant, vanilla, maple syrup, butterscotch, hints of clove and cinnamon and oak.
Finish: pretty long, with notes of ripe summer fruits, vanilla, honey, dash of white pepper and cinnamon and toasted oak.
