New scotch for tasting on Nowy Świat
BenRiach 22 years old Dark Rum Wood Finish / 46% – When Brown Forman, owners of Jack Daniel’s, acquired BenRiach Distillery Company in 2016 we were wondering about American approach to Scotch whisky. More than a year later it looks like Brown-Forman is benefiting from countless experiments and tremendous efforts, which the former owner, Billy Walker, took to build the brand. BenRiach’s various finishes have been greatly appreciated by whisky aficionados and Dark Rum is not exception. The whisky originally matured in traditional white American oak barrels was then transferred into casks, which previously held Jamaican dark rum. Bottled of natural color and without chill-filtration after 22 years of aging.
Nose: rich and sweet, vanilla custard, brown sugar, sweet cereals, poached pears, candied orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of coconut.
Palate: sweet and fruity, apricots, tangerines, pineapples, vanilla, crème brûlée, honey-roasted nuts, candied ginger and dash of cinnamon.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of brown sugar, rum-soaked raisins, fruit salad and hints of cinnamon.
