New whiskey for tasting on Krucza

Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye /40%/Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye was launched in October 2017 as a permanent addition to the Basil Hayden’s lineup. It is so-called ‘Specialty whiskey’ and the company does not share details regarding its formula. What we know is that Kentucky rye makes up the majority of the spirit, with Canadian rye (from Alberta Distillery) accounting for much of the rest and the port (from California) adds a modest share of the mix. According to the Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau regulation, a ‘non-straight rye whiskey can include up to 2.5% wine by volume and still be labeled as rye’. But Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye is not classified as whiskey but as whiskey specialties thus we are guessing that the port content exceeds 2.5%.
