Currach Single Malt Irish Whiskey /46%/ – Currach Whiskey was launched in the early 2020 by Origin Spirits Ireland Ltd, The company was founded in 2013 and produces Kalak Single Malt Vodka and Ornabrak Single Malt Gin. The name ‘Currach’ comes from a traditional Irish boat made of wicker, animal skins and tar going back to the Neolithic times. The triple distilled whiskey sourced probably form West Cork Distillers after being aged in American oak cask for about four years was finished in seaweed charred virgin oak casks for three to four months. Hand harvested Atlantic kombu seaweed after being dried was used as a fuel for barrel charring. The final product is a perfect union of the Irish land and sea.
Nose: seaweed and sea salt, iodine, grilled asparagus, damp wood, roasted nuts, hints of toffee and mixed berries and a touch of putty.
Palate: salted caramel, black coffee, hints of smoke and iodine, miso soup, roasted almonds and nuts and whiffs of sea breeze.
Finish: medium long, earthy and smoky, with notes of toasted mushrooms, pepper, sea salt, seaweed and a touch of rubber.
