Ben Nevis 10 years old Batch No. 1 / 62,4%/ – In recent years Ben Nevis 10 years old enjoyed unprecedented demand and in the late 2017 the distillery ran out of stock. Ben Nevis is owned by Nikka Distilling Company, who sends up to 75% of freshly distilled spirit to Japan to age it then use as a component of their blends. Consequently the core expression from the distillery was not available for more than a year. In the late 2018 some whisky matured in fresh bourbon barrels, sherry and wine casks came out of age and the company decided to vat them and release as Batch No. 1 right before Christmas. The whisky is bottled at natural strength of 62.4% abv and without chill-filtration; only 9000 bottles were produced.

Nose: very rich, hazelnuts, raisins, black cherries, dried apricots, cocoa powder, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, hints of tobacco and leather and touch of peat.

Palate: dark chocolate, nougat, honey, caramel, prunes, raisins, espresso, nutmeg, cardamom, dash of black pepper and cinnamon.

Finish: fairly long, oaky and nutty, with notes of dried fruits, nutmeg, pepper and touch of leather.
