Port Askaig 14 years old, Bourbon Cask / 45,8% / – The Port Askaig brand was introduced by Specialty Drinks Ltd. (the company was founded by Sukhinder Singh, the owner of The Whisky Exchange) in 2009. The whisky is named after the port on the Isle of Islay located very close to Caol Ila Distillery. The company does not disclose, which distillery supplies whisky for the Port Askaig brand however many whisky drinkers point to Caol Ila (we’ve heard recently that there is more than one distillery behind the brand). The 14 years old expression was launched in 2018 and is composed from 11 first fill bourbon barrels. In a short statement the company spokesman revealed that whisky “was sourced from a distillery that rarely releases peated whiskies” what points rather to Bunnahabhain than to Caol Ila.
Nose: fruity and mildly smoky, apples, pears, lemons, bananas, sea breeze, wet shells, vanilla, salted caramel and delicate oakiness.
Palate: smoky and earthy, vanilla, crème brûlée, plums, apples, lemon curd, white pepper, allspice and delicate peaty and oaky notes.
Finish: long, with notes of vanilla, salted caramel, raisins, peat smoke, pepper and oak.
