Nikka Miyagikyo Rum Wood Finish / 46%/Miyagikyo Distillery was built by Masataka Taketsuru in 1969. It was named Sendai after the nearby city in Miyagi prefecture on the island of Honshu. Asahi Breweries acquired Nikka Distilling Company in 2001 and changed the name to Miyagikyo. Today the distillery is equipped with eight pot stills and two large continuous stills. The latter were originally housed in Nishinomiya Distillery but shipped to Sendai after an earthquake there. In the fall of 2017 Nikka unveiled two limited editions (3500 bottles of each expression) of Miyagikyo finished in ex-Moscatel and ex-Rum casks. While the former was reserved to the domestic market, the latter destined for Europe and America.

Finish: fairly long, slightly flowery, with notes of caramel, honey-roasted almonds, and sweet spice.
