– The “Spot whiskey” range can trace its roots to Mitchell & Sons, the wine merchants, established in the early 19th Century. At the turn of the 20th Century the Mitchells entered whiskey trade; having plenty of empty wine casks they sent those to the original Jameson Bow Street Distillery and had them filled with newly distilled spirit. Upon return to the family cellars the barrels were identified with a ‘spot’ of paint indicating how log the spirit would be matured for – Blue for 7 years, Green for 10 years, Yellow for 12 years and Red for 15 years. Only Green Spot has been continuously produced throughout the 20th Century, Yellow Spot was reintroduced in 2012, now (late 2018) we welcome back revered Red Spot. The whiskey was aged for a minimum of 15 years in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels, ex-sherry butts and Sicilian Marsala casks.
Nose: rich and complex, vanilla custard, caramel, dried apricots, strawberries, apples, banana bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, dash of pepper and hints of oak.
Palate: perfectly balanced, crème brûlée, orange peel, lemon curd, strawberries, raisins, nutmeg, pepper, licorice, hints of ginger and aniseed.
Finish: long, with rich spicy notes perfectly balanced with fruity sweetness and oak tannins.
